Web Stalkers
Chapter 2 -
Understanding Web Personalities
Assessing
Personality on the Web
These characteristics are deliberately
exaggerated for the sake of illustration and are designed to help
the internet user notice similarities with people they have
interacted with in cyberspace. The caricatures for these
personalities are from Mike Reed’s Flame Warriors collection.
The Wannabe
The Wannabe is extremely self-absorbed and
naive, and will try very hard to appear educated. They can present
a real danger and therefore should be treated with extreme caution.
Because the Wannabe harbors a deep resentment
for “real” professionals, they love to go on the web and pose as
such, making false, ridiculous and damaging statements.
Personalities in this category often suffer from very low
self-esteem and delusions of grandeur.
Hallmarks of the Wannabe include:
A huge imagination – The Wannabe loves fantasy,
and has a very vivid imagination. Their desire to be other than
what they are shows a clear case for low self-confidence. They are
constant dreamers and sometimes make outrageous claims, sometimes
even staunchly believing their own lies.
The Bragger - The Wannabes tend to “toot their
own horn.” They will often brag about their experiences, degrees
and knowledge. And because of their overactive imagination, will
create outlandish tales that are not even true, most of which are
easy to spot. The Wannabe can be very intelligent and it is not
always easy to tell the truths from the falsehoods.
