Resourcefulness
Are alternative sources consulted or utilized to
perform the job responsibilities? Does the employee make use of
different methodologies, techniques, processes, procedures, and
software tools to get the work done?
Occasionally, work tasks in IT require different
ways to get the job done. This may be due to any of the following:
budget constraints; unplanned problems; changed scope, requirements,
or target dates; personnel changes; or just a lack of technical
information sources to provide a solution. IT professionals who have
the knowledge of alternative sources and the ability to use them are
very beneficial to the organization.
It is likely that every organization has had many
instances where they headed down a planned path and found technical
glitches that had to be worked around. If a computer professional
cannot be resourceful enough to work around problems, then system
solutions will not be provided and the service level agreements of the
department will not be met. Such unsatisfactory performance is not
acceptable and if it becomes a consistent pattern, then the manager
needs to seriously address the issue.
