AWR and ADDM in a Nutshell
The AWR provides the foundation for
sophisticated performance analysis including exception
reporting, trend analysis, correlation analysis, hypothesis
testing, and data mining.
The AWR and ASH are
valuable performance
optimization tools
and provide
the foundation for the use of artificial intelligence techniques
to be applied to Oracle performance monitoring and
optimization. As Oracle evolves
it is
expected
that the AWR and ASH will largely automate the tedious and
time-consuming task of Oracle tuning.
Oracle has invested millions of dollars to
make the AWR and self-tuning features, and an important licensing
issue needs to be recognized.
As of February 2004, Oracle is requiring extra licensing to
access AWR and ADDM table information.
The Database Diagnostic Pack covers
access to the following:
-
AWR- Automatic Workload Repository
-
dbms_workload_repository package
-
awrrpt.sql and awrrpti.sql
reports
-
dba_hist_* and v$active_session_history views
