Adding the Spread Sheet link

This is made simple by the Report Attributes page in HTML DB.  Navigate to this page by clicking on the Edit Page 11 link in the developer toolbar at the bottom of the Conference RSVP Report web page.  Then, click on the Report Attributes (RPT) link as shown in Figure 7.2.  This link goes directly to the Report Attributes page for the report.  Clicking on the Conference - Confirmed Attendees link goes directly to the Region Definition page.

Once on the Report Attributes page, navigate to the Report Export region.  Use the hot link provided near the top of the page, which is shown in Figure 7.3, for faster navigation to save the need to scroll the page manually.

In the Report Export region set the following:

  • Enable CSV Output: YES

  • Separator: Leave this column blank, which is the default

This is the character that will be used to separate each of the columns of data in the export file.  The default value of the separator is dependent on the NLS setting.  Most likely this is either a comma (,) or a semi-colon (;).  Some common alternative choices are the tilde (~) or vertical bar (|).

  • Enclosed By: Leave this column blank (default)

This is the character that will be used to enclose the data in the export file.  The default value is a double-quote (").  The resulting text in the output file would look like this: "Bloomstrom".

  • Link Label: Enter the text Spread Sheet.

This is the text that will be displayed as the link in the report.

  • Filename: Enter the text Conference_RSVP.csv

This is the name to be given to the file when the report is exported.  The default name of the report is the name of the region, with spaces replaced by an underscore (_), and a file extension of CSV.  The default name of the example file would have been conference_-_confirmed_attendees.csv.

  • At the top of the page, click the Apply Changes button.

  • Run the page by clicking on the  icon in the upper right corner of the Page Definition page.

A link with the name Spread Sheet will now be visible in the lower left corner of the report region.  Clicking on this link will offer the user the option of saving the report to a file named Conference_RSVP.csv.
